Text Title: Canelo Alvarez KOs Caleb Plant to become undisputed super-middleweight champion
Text Type: Article
Text Creator: Greg Beachem
Text Purpose: To inform the reader about Canelo Alvarez's incredible victory
Date: November 18th
Summary: The article begins by explaining how Canelo Alvarez overthrew Caleb Plant. With a destructive barrage of power punches in the waning minutes of a difficult fight. Canelo Alvarez added another achievement to his overflowing list of boxing accomplishments. The next part of the article then starts to elaborate on how Canelo is a top recognized fighter, this is because he has fought great fighters like Floyd Mayweather. The last part of the article explains that Canelo has now joined a group of six boxing legends to obtain 4 Championship Division Belts. Only five men had ever achieved four-belt undisputed champion status since the feat became possible with the WBO's advent: middleweights Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor, junior welterweights Terence Crawford and Taylor, and cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk.
What is your guiding question, and how did your guiding question change over time? My group's guiding question was How can we create a successful sports tournament
Why did you choose the driving question? The reason we chose this question was that we were all interested and passionate about sports.
How did you collect your research and what did you discover? We collected our research online through google and we discovered that all successful good tournaments include players with a high skill level and referees to reinforce the rules.
Did you encounter any unintentional learning? Personally, I did not encounter any unintentional learning. (evidence?)
What obstacles did you encounter and how did you overcome them? An obstacle that occurred was trying to obtain numbers for the tournament, the reason for this being that the sport that we chose was a very underground sport in New Zealand. (evidence?)
How did your distractions during the process help or hinder you, what path did they lead you on? Distractions during the process that hindered us trying to find out whether we should change our sport to something more known lead us to end up wasting a little time.
What transferable knowledge/skills/concepts have you gained? (evidence?) Transferable knowledge that I learned was when working with a group you have to be consistent and communicate with each other.
The biggest growth for you, personally from this passion project experience? The biggest growth for me was obtaining experience working with a group.
What advice would you give for incoming students who might be completing this project next year?
The advice I would give to other people is to select group members with who you can work well, this is because you can get through things smoother and think of a more successful way to run the tournament.
What didn’t you include in your planning?
We did not consider how we were going to present our tournament and as a result do not have any photos of our tournament. We also didn’t include many bibliographies.
What didn’t go well for the creating and implementation?
It was hard for us to get a great number of people to come to the tournament because it is not common in New Zealand but this also meant that the people who did show up to the event were all interested in the sport and tried their best. We also did not think to take pictures.
Introduction
What did you do for your project? The project I chose to do was to create a good sports tournament.
Why did you do it? I chose this project because I was curious about how tournaments like the Nba and Nfl are so successful.
Who did you do with? The people who accompanied me were Greg, Meela, and Dylan.
Part 1
How did the brainstorming of ideas go? Brainstorming the ideas was quite simple as we are all into sports.
What was your driving question? My group and I driving question was what creates a good sports tournament.
How did your planning correspond to the finished project? Our planning corresponded with the finished project as we were able to create a successful tournament that everyone enjoyed.
Part 2
How did the planning help you? The planning helped develop our group’s tournament as we had to knowledge about what creates a good tournament.
What didn’t you include in your planning? I believe our planning could have had more bibliography on the sites we used for research.
What will you do differently in your planning next time? For the next time, I will include more bibliography for the research, this will also help as we can look back at the information in case we forget or need something.
Part 3
What went well with the creating and implementation? Something that went well with creating and implementing was that we were all knowledgeable about the sport
What didn’t go well for the creating and implementation? Something that did not go well was trying to get extra numbers for the tournament, this was because the sport we chose was sort of unknown to New Zealand culture.
What did you learn about yourself during this phase? I learned that I can sometimes push through adversity.
What did you learn about working with others during this phase? (Please be respectful here!) I learned that being inclusive with the whole group is a necessity when working with people
How did you show the HHS school values during the whole process? Please be specific. The value commitment was shown by trying to finish and get more numbers when the tournament was a little low. The value achievement was displayed when we finished creating our project, this was shown by us celebrating because the workload and stress would be lessened. Respect was shown when we were all collaborating and talking about creating a sports tournament. Finally Resilience, we all displayed this when we came across the problem of when we should do the tournament, we all pushed through and found out that most students would be better off doing it at morning tea and lunch.
Conclusion
What did you learn about yourself? I did not really learn anything about myself.
What did you learn about your passion? I learned that sports are a necessity in my lifestyle.
What did you learn about creating projects? I learned that creating projects can get very frustrating when
What would you do differently next time? Something I would do differently is to choose a sport more popular so we can get a lot more numbers. This will everything run smoother.
