Hunger Games Sexxxy Paragraphs

In the reaping scene, camera angles and shots are used efficiently to show the theme of 'Rich vs Poor' In this scene Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute to save her sister, this means she must fight in the hunger games. A low angle, dutch tilt is used to show Katniss and Effie Trinket standing on the stage after Katniss volunteers. This is used to make the audience feel dizzy like Katniss who has just chosen to give her life over her sisters Primrose Everdeen. The low angle shot makes the viewer feel weak and vulnerable like the kids watching in District 12. The director did this too help create a bond with the audience and Katniss, this is used to understand the choices of why she makes certain decisions in the film later on. This also shows the theme of Rich vs Poor because the people of the districts have to struggle with the reality of losing family whereas Capitol citizens and representatives don't have to worry about the reaping. Combined with this is the use of costumes. We see the privilege of Capitol citizens in the bright, exotic, and colourful clothing worn by Effie which contrasted to the worn and faded outfits of those in District 12. Overall, the reaping scene shows us Rich vs Poor because it emphasises the privileges of the Capitol and the power they have over the Districts.

In the tribute parade scene, camera angles and shots are used effectively to exhibit the theme of ‘Struggle for Power’. In this scene each tribute from the Districts 1 to 12 are presented through a chariot that rides through the middle of the venue. The chariot ride presents the tributes in a heroic way; this is to build suspense and hype for the tributes. A High angle and extreme long shot are used in this scene. The extreme long shot is used to set the scene and show the environment at a massive scale. The high angle represents the privilege and opportunity the Capitol and President Snow have over the Districts. This makes us understand the power, wealth and privilege that President Snow and the capitol have over the districts as they watch from above with no care about having to be reaped. Coinciding with the shot was the music playing as the scene was introduced. Music in the tribute parade was high key which induced suspense and anticipation to the scene as they rode the chariots. This reminds me of the rich vs poor in the reaping scene, this gives me remembrance due to the fact that both scenes have a strong capitol representative that cannot be reaped as they have.

In Katniss Everdeen’s evaluation, Gary Ross (director) makes use of camera angles to efficently show the theme of Rich vs Poor. We see this is shown walking into the scene with a high angle shot, shrouded without light. High angle shots are used to make the subject look small; weak, and the high angle shot used represents the view from Katniss’s evaluators, who are from the Capitol. This makes the audience think that Katniss’s evaluators, wealthy Hunger Games officials from the Capitol, are more powerful than Katniss, a hunter from the most impoverished district in Panem. Ross made use of juxtaposition to put forward the idea that those from the Capitol hold great power over those from the 12 districts of Panem.

In Rue’s death Gary Ross (Director) makes great use of the medium shot. We see this as Katniss mourns over Rue. The medium shot is used to start an engagement, it is more for informing the audience instead of showing the emotion. Also this shot shows how casual it would be if people were having a conversation. This makes us understand that Katniss is emotional and connects to other people who have helped her, Katniss is selfless and puts others before herself. The director did this to show Katniss can be very emotional when the time comes for it. Combined with this was the low dim lighting to increase the sorrow in the scene. This reminds me of when Katniss volunteered for tribute to save her sister, towards the end of the volunteer scene she puts up the 3 Finger salute just like the end of Rue’s death to symbolize the Hope & Rebellion.
