Rich and Poor
Hope & Rebellion
Struggle for Power
Power of Propaganda
For the two ideas/themes we will first brainstorm.
- Explain what it means
- Find two examples in the film
- Describe how it shows the theme
Rich vs Poor:
Poverty, Power, Privilege.
Rich- Lots of money, opportunities, privilege, power, fame.
Poor- less opportunities, no power, less money, disadvantage
Definition: it is more then just money it involves power, privilege, and opportunities
Rich:
- Capitol - They don´t get reaped. Plenty of food excessive amounts, better clothes, lots of clothes, the can coordinate and choose what they want, choice and opportunity, Better buildings futuristic, not worn out, different buildings, more architectural and structured better, advanced technology, medical technology, blood scanners, healing balms, Children- Not worried, don´t work, play around
- President Snow,
- District 1
- Caesar
Poor
- District 12 & 11
- District 12-Worn out buildings, Old buildings, not secure, holes in the roofs, made from cheap wood, broken windows. No materials to improve the structures and architecture, no electricity.
- Clothing- Bland no colours, worn out, raggedy, not much clothes, old work clothes, suspenders and button up shirts, trousers and shorts, we´re shown clothes that aren´t properly fitted, handed down clothes, dresses, shirts and skirts, Jackets coal miners-black, grey dark colours don´t show the dirt.
- Technology -Medicines- nothing seen, sick are seen, health privilege, transport is walking, electric fence doesn´t work- not enough energy to keep it going.
- Food- Scare and barely any, hunting food, rationed out, put your name into the reaping for extra food.
- Children- Working, barely free time, pushing sticks into the mud, scared of the reaping and the hunger games, become a coal miner, barely any opportunities,
Paragraph type: SEXXXY
In the Hunger Games´, setting is used effectively to show the theme is ´Rich Vs Poor´. Rich vs poor is more then just money it involves power, privilege, and opportunities. For Instance, we can see privilege through the idea of privilege reflected in the physical environments of District 12 and the Capitol. In District 12 the buildings are worn out, broken down, and not secure whereas the buildings in the Capitol show variation, modern design, advanced materials and are built on a grand scale. This makes the audience think about the differences in wealth and power between the two locations. District 12 has nothing whilst people in the Capitol are harboured with safety and being secured in their advanced buildings. The purpose of this was to was to show that Katniss Everdeen has come from a place of less privilege and power so her success in the games was very unlikely. Coinciding with this is the use of colour. In the District 12 there is multiple browns and greens whilst the Capitol shows us a vibrant futuristic pallete of colours like metallic greys, blacks and silvers. The use of settings and colour effectively show us the imbalance of privilege between those in places like District 12 and The Capitol
